Breakfast at the Tsukiji Fish Market

I've been to Tokyo many times in the past 30 years but I've never been to the Tsukiji fish market ... until yesterday. I could not get myself to wake up at 4am for the wholesale fish auction (a major tourist attraction). BUT, I happily strolled over with Miranda for breakfast. At 9am, the place was still in a state of flux. Lots of people, cars, bikes, small and big trucks coming and going. It was a challenge not be run over. My reward was a delicious sashimi rice bowl!

I thought of my late mom then. This is something that she would have enjoyed: eating with a little bit of adventure. She may have done this when my family lived in Tokyo in the 80s. My dad, if he had the choice, would have skipped it though because of the fishy smell all over. I was glad that I could take a shower again before my 4-hour plane ride back to HK!
