A whirlwind week in New York

Clockwise from top: Little Nico, Jeff, Aimee, Chesca and Me

Lucky me to be in NY barely a week after Little Nico was born. Here's the message I got from his proud parents, Aimee and Jeff Kowalak:

Hi everyone!!

We are so proud to announce the birth of our son Nicolas Jeffrey Kowalak. "Nico" was born on Tuesday, October 9th at 4:42pm. He weighed 6 lbs. 10 oz. and was 20.5 beautiful inches long. Both new mommie Aimee and Nico are doing wonderfully. Nicolas has had a very busy 3+ days so far - he was born on Tuesday afternoon, was circumcised on Wednesday, went home from the hospital on Thursday and had his first doctor's appointment and first vaccination on Friday. Not only that but he "saw" his first sunset and his first rainstorm already. He also met Grandma and Grandpa, Uncle John and Aunt Elena (Aimee's friend from grad school) while in the hospital. He is looking forward to meeting all of you as well.

Before that, I was not really looking forward to this business trip. With the news, suddenly, the 22 hr journey from HK to NY via Seoul did not seem so long and pointless anymore! And my luck did not end there. The good girlfriend that she is, Chesca Silva drove 6 hrs each way to spend 4 days with me. On Wednesday night, we visited the Kowalaks. (I love their place! And I love their happy -- growing family.) I also had the chance to see Joy Lopez (a girlfriend from my elementary and high school etc years) and Mihali Felipe (another schoolmate now a PhD teaching in Yale!! I am so proud of you, Hali!)!

I have to include the pictures Chesca, Hali and I took of ourselves posing in the cavernous entrance hall of the Grand Central Station. Guess... whose idea that was? We stopped traffic! More later!
PS Chesca has done all the work. Click on: http://www.exskindiver.blogspot.com/. She has the full story and some pictures. No more "more later".
