Slum Book Entry # 2

If you have ever lost a friend due to unwavering beliefs but had the chance to make peace, would you?

I was just re-reading Chesca's blog on lost friendships and she asked this question. Like her, I attach quite a lot of value on my friendships. Janet Bagnes, a very good friend, recently observed that I exert effort in maintaining my friendships. This is so true!

I maintain contact (though not as often as I would like to), with friends that I made in school (from nursery to graduate school) and in work (Far East Bank, Equitable PCI Bank, the BIS), friends that I have met through other friends and those I have met by accident. For example, I met some people during holidays who after a few conversations have somehow touched me in personally profound ways. All these friends, I would like to keep forever. And, if I do lose some of them due to major differences, I hope that it will only be for awhile and that I would make peace with them... eventually.

I met Lillian Rosales (now Eder) when I was 6 years old. We were classmates: UP Elem Grade 1 Pipit! Since then, we have been the best of friends. She has known me practically all my life. And, I would like to think that we can never stay mad at each other. (Tama ba, Lillian?) This seems a good time to recall when she, with hubby Peter, and kids Max and Lia visited me in Basel in November 2004.

They will be coming to HK next weekend and I am so looking forward to seeing them!!!
