Friends from my first job

In 1992, I joined Far East Bank & Trust Co. as a bonds dealer. Starting almost at the same time with me was Brenda Taruc. A few months later, Lourdes "Des" Protacio came on board. Perhaps, because all three of us were from UP and because we were all naturally fun-loving, we got along very well.

Last night, we met up for dinner in Pasto at the El Pueblo in Ortigas Centre. It's been 12 years since I last saw Des. I have been in contact with Brenda, rather irregularly but constantly, over the years. We had a good time reliving our after-work gimmicks to Antipolo (yes, even on week nights), lunches in Intramuros, Malate and Binondo, and a special lunch outing to Balao Balao in Laguna. No wonder, we did not save any money back then! Of course, we had lots of fun!

After two years at Far East, Des left banking to be an educator. Since then, she has written five books and is currently the Asst Principal of Poveda. On the other hand, Brenda has become successful staying in banking. She is now the Risk Manager of BDO.
