Ship Street is a tiny alley of a street perpendicular to Queen's Road East, almost across the Hopewell Building. It's definitely benefitting from the gentrification of the whole Wan Chai district. I really love how "gentrification" has become such a buzz word these days. There's so much beauty in upcycling. My wish is to do something along those lines in Manila ... someday!
Back to Ship Street, Wan Chai. There, you would find, 22 Ships, a quaint tapas place run by a Michelin-starred chef and the people behind Duecento Otto in Sheung Wan. These people definitely know what their business is all about.
At 22 Ships, I totally loved the industrial decor (high-ceiling, NYC loft-type), the neighborhood (where you have some new and a little bit left of the old HK), the friendly staff, and, yes, of course, pretty good comfort food. To me, it's an after-work place to bring a small group of friends. I could live there! They don't accept reservations and there are only 35 seats. So I am glad that we were there at 6:30 pm. How I wish that I took pictures of the neighborhood and the interiors. Next time.
Here are three of the best among what we ordered --- downed with red and white sangria (modesty aside, I think my version of sangria is much, more yum than theirs)!!!
In case you don't believe me, try this:
1/2 portion sweet and cheap red wine
1/2 portion fanta or royal true orange
one apple with skin and/or one orange with zest, sliced into small pieces
ice
Put that all together in a pitcher. Serve individually in big-rimmed wine glasses as in the picture here. DRINK AWAY! ^.^ ^.^ ^.^

Yum!!
ReplyDeleteMy sangria over the summer got everyone (too?) intoxicated. It had a shot or two of cointreau soaked in all the fruits!
