On my last evening in Issaquah, we went downtown to Jak's Grill for some honest-to-goodness American steak. Jak's Grill serves corn-fed Nebraska-raised beef. I would call this a "basic American steak" meal because of the sheer size of the meat and the sidings and how these were all prepared. I had their potato pancake called the flying saucer (or was it UFO?! Not sure of the name now.) to accompany my steak. All five of us ordered the same thing and only one, my brother-in-law, finished his meal. It seemed to me that it was a matter of pride for him!!! My sister told me later that they had the leftovers for dinner the following day and found that they still were left with half of my steak afterwards. The portions were simply way too HUGE.
We started off with the scallops, one of the specials that day. And, that, I found to be the best part of the meal. Tender, juicy, and just yummy. I could go back for that and for Jak's margarita. As for the steak, I would have to do the wise thing and share one portion order with my sister. If we go back. But, Seattle and its suburbs are full of other restaurants to try and there are some that I would definitely be re-visiting before Jak's Grill, like the Book Bindery, for example, whose poached eggs I am still dreaming of... yum yum!
