It would like to feel like it's HK's best-kept secret and you can't reserve a table. Normally, I would skip it because I always want to be better organized than that. I am also not a big fan of waiting for anything. But, just that one time, I let this friend of mine talk me into giving Brickhouse a try. As we went straight from work, we managed to get ourselves the last two seats at the bar with zero waiting time. Being the spoilt brat that I am when it comes to eating out ... what a pleasant surprise it was that I found their take on Mexican food and drinks to be quite refreshing. I enjoyed the casual set-up and, for that short time there, I felt oh so young and stupid once again.
On those evenings after work, when I want to feel young again, I would go to Brickhouse. It's kind of a very sophisticated, the up-market, version of Tia Maria's (Greenhills and Makati Ave) of my youth. Brickhouse is light where Tia's was dark, its food complex where there it was basic, and the drinks defintely feeling-"grown-up" where in the old hangout those were all rather crude. Prices, well, we do not even want to go there!
To my friends from UPIS and UP who used to go to Tia Maria's and Elephant's Bar (both no more) with me in those days, if and when you visit me Hong Kong, don't hesitate to ask me to bring you to Brickhouse. And, I promise you, you will get exactly what I mean and you will even thank me for it. Promise!
PS The drinks at Brickhouse are great. But, I think I can mix drinks better at home. Don't worry.... it should not be a problem inviting you over after dinner.
