I follow Chuvaness and Daphne because, between these two bloggers, I know absolutely everything that I need to know about the Philippines. At least, in terms of the three things that I am most interested: design, food, and entertainment. Because of Chuvaness, I know that Libera will be in Manila later this month. Unfortunately, I will miss that. Thanks to Daphne, I found out that Cecille Licad, Lisa Macuja and Lea Salonga were about to give an encore on their “The Legends and the Classics” show last 12/13 October. As I was going to be in Manila that weekend, I hurriedly organized a girls' night-out with 3 of my girlfriends: Aissa (who used to dance ballet), Cecille (who loves Lea), and Tess. I booked our tickets through Ticketworld and picked them up at the CCP box office a few minutes before showtime. Totally painless.
The show must be one of the best and most sulit that I’ve seen in years. These three ladies, accomplished in their respective fields, came together so nicely for a non-stop 2-hour-and-15-minute show. Being the Über professional performers that they were and are, the show started right on the dot at 8 pm. The audience were well-dressed and well-behaved. There were none of those people who would go to the toilet every few minutes, interrupting my viewing pleasure. There were many kids there but they were all obviously well-brought up. No crying and no tantrums.
Cecille’s fingers floated on her piano. Lisa danced beautifully and with so much passion. Lea was Lea and only she had the speaking parts. There was an emotional moment towards the end when Lea announced that Lisa will be retiring at the end of the year.
There was one part when the three of them were onstage. Lisa just finished doing an excerpt from Swan Lake. The three of them took their bows and left the stage with Lisa “en pointe”-ing her way out. My friend Cecille could not help herself and stage-whispered “Ang lola mo talaga. Swan kung swan!”
What a perfect evening that was. It made me realize that it is time to re-discover Philippine entertainment.
