Long Beach @ Dempsey

When I am in Singapore, I always want to eat tourist food such as Black Pepper Crabs or Hainanese Chicken Rice. Yes, I can be pretty boring when it comes to my food choices. Thanks to my friends who have made Singapore their home for the past several months, I had one of the best crab dinners (and it was not my usual Black Pepper Crabs) at Long Beach Seafood Restaurant’s Dempsey Hill branch last weekend. And, it kind of did not feel too tourist-ee. More, expat-ee.

My friends ordered several dishes. They were all so yummy. But, my favorite were the Classic WHITE Pepper Alaskan King Crabs!!! So juicy!!! The white pepper gives a bit of a kick without overpowering the flavor of the fresh crabs. If I were to order only one dish in this place, that would be it! The use of one's fingers is part of the whole experience. So nice that Long Beach provides everyone with a small bowl of water and slices of lemon for washing the fingers afterwards. No sharing, please!

I also loved it that we sat out in the balcony. The weather was perfect for it. The secret is to have an open plan and a huge number of fans hanging from the ceiling. I absolutely love al fresco dining ... but only when executed correctly! Singapore does it so perfectly!
